A More Equitable Way to Give: Introducing Our Updated Student Gift Policy
At Tsering’s Fund, everything we do is guided by one core belief: every child deserves to feel valued, included, and supported.
As our community of sponsors and students continues to grow, we are always reflecting on how to best serve every child in our programs—not just individually, but collectively. With that in mind, we are introducing an important update to how gifts are shared with students.
Why We’re Making This Change
In the past, sponsors have generously sent physical gifts to individual students. These gestures come from a place of deep kindness, and we are incredibly grateful for the care and thought behind each one.
However, over time, we’ve seen some challenges emerge:
Equity matters. Not all students receive the same number or type of gifts, which can unintentionally create feelings of exclusion among children.
Logistics are complex. Shipping, storing, and distributing physical items to rural areas in Nepal can be difficult and costly.
Our focus is impact. We want to ensure that every resource is used in a way that benefits all students in a meaningful and sustainable way.
Our New Approach: Shared Gift Giving
Moving forward, Tsering’s Fund will no longer accept or distribute physical gifts for individual students.
Instead, we are introducing a shared gift giving model—one that reflects our values of equity, dignity, and community.
Here’s how it works:
Sponsors and donors are invited to contribute to a collective gift fund
Suggested donation: $25-50 per student
Funds will be pooled to purchase thoughtful, locally appropriate gifts
Every child will receive a gift—ensuring a joyful and inclusive experience for all
This approach allows us to celebrate students together, while also supporting local economies and ensuring that each gift is culturally appropriate and meaningful.
What Hasn’t Changed: Personal Connections Matter
While we are moving away from physical gifts, the heart of sponsorship—connection—remains just as important as ever.
In fact, what students treasure most are the personal connections they build with their sponsors.
We warmly encourage you to continue sending:
Letters
Photos
Drawings
Students are especially excited to learn about:
Where you live
Your family (including children and pets!)
Your hobbies and interests
Your favorite foods
What daily life looks like for you
These exchanges foster understanding, curiosity, and a sense of global friendship that lasts far beyond any physical gift.
Looking Ahead
This change ensures that every child in our program feels equally celebrated and included—while allowing us to operate more efficiently and sustainably.
It’s a shift rooted in fairness, community, and long-term impact.
We are so grateful for your continued partnership and your commitment to supporting students not just with generosity, but with intention.
